Reading Response to The Outsiders

The characters in “The Outsiders” face conflicts and emotions throughout the book. But not as much as Ponyboy who deals with rival gangs like the Socs , his own gang, and even his inner-self. Ponyboy has a lot to focus on, but can he handle it?
Ponyboy is in a gang filled with greasers, poor, under middleclass people.  But that does not mean he doesn’t have a rival gang. The Socs are middle and upper class people who take advantage if they see a greaser walking by himself. Ponyboy may not have experience in the beginning of the book of getting gangbanged by the Socs but his friend Johnny does. Ponyboy and the rest of the gang were walking through a lot when they see bloody jacket and footsteps on the floor. They wondered what had happened until they heard a voice moaning. It was Johnny all torn up and bloody. But he Ponyboy does get attacked by the Soc while walking home from a movie. They were about to cut and hurt Ponyboy until some of the Ponyboy’s gang saw what was happening and came to help.  Ponyboy was scared to death but he was alright even though it was his first hit.

In Ponyboy’s gang, there is at least 6 people. There is Darry, Ponyboy’s older boy, and then there Steve, Johnny, Dally, Two-Bit, and Soda.  They mostly get along with each other but there are times when It doesn’t work out. For example when Johnny and Ponyboy were watching a movie with two girls that were from the Socs, Dally would try to make fun of them or get them annoyed. Johnny got sick of it and told her to stop making fun of the girls. Nobody talked to Dally that way, Dally was a mean street thug who robbed grocery stores when he got the chance. Dally was surprised at Johnny for what Johnny just said to him. Though Dally want to hurt one of his own gang, he just walked away and left to go rob a store or something.
When Ponyboy was younger, his parents died in a car accident. There was nobody to support Ponyboy and Darry when they were younger. Ever since then, Pony and Darry picked themselves up and helped each other get back on their feet. Darry wanted Ponyboy to get an education and go back to school while he worked and took care of anything else. But that’s not the only problems he Ponyboy deals with. In school, Pony has no friends and he skipped a grade so people don’t take seriously in school because of his age and because nobody likes him.
In conclusion, “The Outsiders” is a good book that I can relate to in many ways. But one way is that “The Outsiders” is the same as Stand by me, a movie about a group of kids in a gang looking for a dead body to become heroes. The main character Gordie is sort of similar to Ponyboy. Someone I they family died in a car accident who they loved but overcame it.  The book was great and I really enjoyed it.

Who was I? Who am I? Who do you want to become?

I was a small child with a huge imagination. Not understanding what really happens in the real world. Thinking monsters and magical creatures exist like for instnace, a wizard. I really didnt understand what was happening much when i was younger.

I am teenager growing to be an adult. My imagination changes throughout my life beacuse I know what real and not real in life. I am kid who has a good life, I'm in middle school learning about many things, I live in a great home. I understand things better than I did before when I was younger.

What I want to become successful in life. Have a job that involves sports or maybe if that doesn't work out, I could be a businessman. I want to become a better understood person and even more things if I think about it.

The Percy Jackson Series: The Last Olympian

Independent Reading Response
Have you ever read a book that had mythical creatures and adventure and more? If you did then you heard of  the Last Olympian, the last book of the Percy Jackson series, the main character Percy Jackson and friends go on a wild adventure to defeat Kronos, the titan lord. But during this adventure, feelings are expressed throughout the book; true love comes between Percy and another demi –god Annabeth.  New friends are made and much more.
The battle between Percy and his friends against Kronos and his titans can be expressed in so many ways. It can be expressed as the Civil as two large groups of men battle for what they want to be changed. Kronos, the evil titan lord wants to take over Olympus but Percy won’t let that happen. I quote when Poseidon, Percy Jackson’s father says “Strike for Olympus” makes me understand that here is going to be a huge fight when the gods of Olympus are fighting as well. The hatred of the fight goes a long way as many are dead for reasons that are stupid and wrong.
Many feelings are expressed in many parts of the book. For example when Percy and his friend Beckendorf are in a ship called the Princess Andromeda filled with Titans that are going to destroy the city and Olympus, Beckendorf gets captured and Percy has a chance to survive and or die with his friend. Percy had no choice but to leave when the boat exploded, you could tell Percy was sad by when he said “I knew in my gut he was dead. He’d sacrificed himself to take out the Princess Andromeda, and I had abandoned him.” Percy lost his best friend to save everybody else and Percy could not help Bekendorf in any way he could.  During the end of the book, a relationship starts to grow. Percy and Annabeth show love during the battle when he saved Annabeth from Kronos  and at the end when they kiss and show affection like when Percy says and I quote “ And it was pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time” really shows a lot about their love.
What I could understand from the book is friendship goes along away. Percy Jackson meets his brother Tyson, a Cyclops and some soldiers and friends from camp and his father’s palace underwater. Without the help of friends, Percy and the Olympians would had never won the battle between them and Kronos. For example, Percy and his friends stood together and helped each other by treating them with medicine to get through agonizing  pain and more.
In Conclusion, the book was really great. I enjoyed the whole entire series. It made me understand things better and clearer when in one book I couldn’t understand things much but then the other book helps you out to other stand what happened more understood.

Reading Responses

My response is to Rick Riordan last book of the Percy Jackson series, the Last Olympian

In the book the main character, Percy Jackson fights in the hardest battle he ever fought, he discovers new things about his father and about the Olympians and Titans. He meets new friends and enemies like other demigods and Titans.

Living in a camp, it gets kind of boring since your stuck there for 100 years, But that will soon change in what will come of Titans vs Olympians

Later in the book, he finds out that Luke, an used to be friend is controlled by Kronos, the Titan Lord. Percy and his friends, Annabeth, Thalia, and Grover must go on a quest to beat Kronos and all of his army.

He takes on the hardest creatures Kronos gives him. Though he doesn't fight by himself. His friends and family are with him all the way and don't forget the Olympians.

The book shows friendship, family, and love. He has a relationship with his friend Annabeth and gets closer to his dad Poseidon. It shows Percy going through tough times but all worth it.

In the end of the book, relationships get closer, Percy is growing mature and not losing cool when somebody gets on his nerves. he learns a lot at the end of the battle. Though it might be hard not to remember what happened to him, he will still love camp half-blood and everybody there.

Papa's Waltz

In Papa's Walt, the poem gets confusing at first. In the beginning I thought tha the father was drunk and he abused the boy. But when I kept reading it, I thought proabaly  the poem was about the dad and the boy was just dancing and got dizzy and thats why in the poem it mention that the pans were falling.

It did get confusing when it mentioned a belt buckle, I thought the kid was getting hit or hurt and it also mentioned something like the smell of whiskey could make a boy go dizzy, which made me think the dad was drunk.

Maybe Im wrong or something But I think the message was not about abuse or anything like that but probably describing what happen when the kid and dad were dancing and enjoying themselves.

People's Blog

I really like Jose's blog because he puts his heart and passion into it like you could really tell what he's focusing on. Sometimes you coud actually see him in his writing by the way he dscribes and tells it which I taught was good.

I really like other blogs to like Noa's and Gabby G. Because you could sometimes relate to what they say, you could clearly undertsand what they say in their blogs.

picture book

In the world there are good people and bad people, but here in New York City, there is a boy with a good heart and family. His name is Hassan, he is a Arabic Muslim boy. Every day is the same, goes to school, talks with friends, and most of all, he enjoyed his life. Until one day something happens that nearly ruined his childhood life.
Hassan would wake up to the sounds of knocking from his mom trying to get him from school. 10 minutes are so he would say goodbye to his mom and leave for school. School was mostly his second home; his friends were his brothers and sisters, the teachers were his grumpy but sometimes nice neighbors, and the classrooms and cafeterias were his room and kitchen.
One day while leaving school he thought of a day that would make his life miserable for a little while. He never knew it would be today. A couple of hours later, the devastation of the twin towers had just occurred, that day was never forgotten, the day September 11, 2001.The day the twin towers collapsed. Everybody was scared and sad for what has happen to the people who died and to the people who made this occur. The next day in school, taking his first 10 steps today in the cafeteria of the school, a big sound of voices flew deep into his ear drums. For a second Hassan didn’t know what was happening. That all changed when words of “YOUR KIND OF PEOPLE DID THIS, YOUR PEOPLE KILLED ALL THOSE PEOPLE. HOW DARE YOU WALK INTO THIS SCHOOL AFTER WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY YOU TWERP!” The next thing you know, different kind of foods was being thrown in the air hitting Hassan’s body hard.
He couldn’t believe what was happening to him. He didn’t know what to do; he even stayed in the classroom when it was lunch time. Then all of a sudden, he thought that maybe his friends could help him, maybe they could make him feel better.
Hassan walked and walked until he found his friends near the water fountain.  Hey, what’s up Hassan yelled out. His friends just looked and said back “leave us alone, you and friends that made the towers blow up have already did so much damage. Hassan was shocked; his own friends didn’t even want to talk to them. Hassan immediately went to the bathroom and started crying.
He couldn’t see this happen again so just got all of his things and walked home. His mom was already home from work and saw Hassan come inside with tears running down his face and his clothes covered in food.  She went to go check on him.
“What’s wrong honey” said Hassan’s mom Alia. “Everybody hates me now because of what happened yesterday, the teachers don’t look at me, nobody wants to sit next to me, and even my friends won’t talk to me.”
Did you try to talk to your friends said Alia. Yeah but they walked away from me every time I tried said Hassan. Sorry but I don’t know what to do to fix this problem said Alia. It’s okay; let’s just hope for the best.
As Days soon went by, Hassan didn’t want to go back to the school but was forced too. But yet again, he was pelted by food by his fellow school classmates. But this time he didn’t really care, he just looked at his friends, seeing their faces, they even looked sad.
When lunchtime began, he still stayed in the classroom. He didn’t want to go downstairs. He just looked outside the window waiting until lunch was over. While looking outside, he soon heard the sounds of kids walking through the hallways. Hassan figured it was just some kids talking down the hall. Couple of seconds later, the classroom door opened. Kids started to come in the classroom, but lunch time wasn’t over. It was Hassan’s friends. Hassan thought it was probably a trap and they would beat him up. He was wrong. “We’re sorry for yelling at you and thinking that you were the same as those who terrorized. You’re special and different, you’re much better than them” said Muhammad, one of Hassan’s best friends. Hassan looked back and smiled, everybody didn’t hate him no more. He was once again happy and once more could feel the sweet joy of eating with friends that were considered my brothers.

Starry Night

Vincent Van Gogh in a letter to his brother

The town does not exist
except where one black-haired tree slips
up like a drowned woman into the hot sky.
The town is silent. The night boils with eleven stars.
Oh starry starry night! This is how
I want to die.

It moves. They are all alive.
Even the moon bulges in its orange irons
to push children, like a god, from its eye.
The old unseen serpent swallows up the stars.
Oh starry starry night! This is how
I want to die:

into that rushing beast of the night,
sucked up by that great dragon, to split
from my life with no flag,
no belly,
no cry.

In the picture starry night and poem it feels like the author is trying to say that she is dying or feeling depressed, telling the reader she wants to die

by looking at the picture, I really couldnt see much of meaning to it until i see the stars and wind and in the poem is said that the stars were sucked in by a serpent, maybe the wind is the serpent and taking them away.

Also it showed how the sky felt to her, it feel amazing to her, peaceful, her emotions were the main focus of the attachment of the sky.

Poem

A bang
that's all I hear
fell from the slippery heights of my home
with no chance of help to come

My head was left a mess
you could hear and feel the drops of red water
Becoming a small river that rode threw the dirty floor of old paint and concrete
left alone until the sounds of fright rushed through the scenes

Picked up from cold rock
so delightful and nice
My pain drifted from time to time
even though there was no crime
